modifying my 200q headlights question

I didn't get a great look at the headlight pics on his 80 (4000), but
basically here's the plan:
1.Projector type headlights. I passed on the choice of using clear
projector fog lights because I don't know for sure how the pattern
compares to proper projector headlights. To be safe, I'm going to use
BMW projectors. At this point, I think regular incandescent bulbs are
good enough. I can get BMW HID controllers, too, but I'm going one
step at a time. These headlights will be pressed into holes enlarged
for them where the factory bulbs used to be. Lenses will be polished
of the chips and clear coated. The reflector surface will not be
removed. I'll see how far forward I can get the projectors to the
outer lenses.
2.Round driving lamps to replace the inner parking lights (I changed
the bulbs and use them as city/drls). Hella makes a round one. Non
projector type. Might fit. Looks like the one from the pre 94
mustangs. Break diffuser between reflector and outer lens. This will
serve as my high beam. I'll stick with 55w. I also found out from my
friend that one can adapt h7's to fit h3 lamps. He did it last night.
Big improvement on his 325's fogs.
3.Because of the absence of low wattage bulbs to use as city lights
(I also like the look, too), I'll probably drill holes for #1156
bulbs into the inner beam's reflector and simply put the factory
parking light sockets in there.
4.Wiring. I think I may just go with the factory wiring and split
them off. I want to go one step at a time, so I don't want to relay
during this whole thing. I'll either do it before or after, not
during. Don't want to deal with deactivating auto check. Since I'm
using factory wattage bulbs, I shouldn't have a problem. So, the
factory headlight plug will be split between the low beam and the
high/driving beams. They will function as stock, with the exception
that the two beams are not incorporated into one bulb.
BTW-Which wires in the 200's headlight plug are for what? I'm
assuming one ground, one low beam+, one high+.
Next, for the folks out there with factory projectors, how close to
the outer lens is the lens of the projector? I'm assuming I'll hear a
range. I think I'll probably need to get them as close as possible
because of the fluting, to avoid scaterring light.
There should be an expense of next to nothing for this project, with
the exception of the high beams. I'm not going to pay more than $40
for a pair.
So, my hypothesis is that I'll have better forward light, with less
scatter, better side lighting, and less overall wasting of light. I
won't need a DVM to confirm that my lights are on when it's wet or
rainy out.
Summer project! I'll keep all posted as things progress.
