modifying my 200q headlights question

Huw, relaying them is definately a good idea. I may do it first, but
it's just a matter of actually doing it. I'm pretty satisfied with
the reliability and wiring right now. I'm honestly afraid to tempt
fate. Whenever I do a job on my car, I make sure I do it with the
drive across pennsylvania in mind. No lights, few towns, some
abandoned cars, lots of miles, lots of fog, lots of sharp high speed
turns.

As far as relaying factory lights, I think it does work, but not the
results I'm looking for without going to euros. Fortunately, many of
the lights for the DOT (nowdays) have blended to the euro standard
(sort of) while still being dot legal. Gotta love those loopholes!
Anyway, relaying, along with my mod may be the ticket. I don't have
money for the euros.

I saw some pics on Micha's Audipage. I think the results may be along
the lines of the S2, coupe quattro headlights. I noticed how the
projector is set pretty far inboard of the lamp. Very near the
divider between the low beam and the high. I may get better side
lighting by doing this, at the expense of some lighting in the
middle. I'm limited, however by the location of the factory hole.
Fortunately, I can't do worse than what Audi has done already, so I
don't feel that bad. I think the results will be good and if anyone
wants to beat me to it, great!

I would relay them *first.*

Bypassing the autocheck system will be a lot simpler than installing
custom headlights, by the way.

It is documented on a number of websites, perhaps including mine,
even.
(under type 89-weird and custom, if it's there)
