Thanks for confirming that the starter does ground through it's casing.  The
Biggest trouble was that I was installing what I guess is a later, larger
starter.  The small terminals are a different style than the original and I
had to do some retrofitting.

Works great now, The new starter has no trouble turning the I-5, takes about
a half turn and the engine fires right up.  Wish I would have done that
sooner....
