Stuck? electric window regulator motor

My rear window is stuck closed (luckely). I am getting power thru the switch,
I have continuinty on the two leads going to the motor and when I apply power
to the leads in either up or down it draws current and there is a slight
clunk. I assume that the window or cable or gear drive is stuck. I cannot
find any info on electric window regulator troubleshooting or removal in my
Bently therefore I must ask....

1. Can the motor be removed or disengaged without removing the cable and it's
attachment to the window? I can see some sort of brass adjustment(?) screw on
the drive housing. It looks like I must have the window down to get at the
cable/window attachment.
