But before you start cheering- it's a diesel.
VW and Audi have jointly developed a new five-cylinder diesel engine,
all-alloy. Displacement is 2.5 litres and the incorporation of an internal
chain instead of a timing belt (as on the new compact V8) has made the
block over two inches shorter than the old I-5. It's a direct-injection PD
diesel and will come in two versions- 130 and 174 hp. It will debut in the
upcoming VW Transporter but will also be installed in the future Golf V and A3.
