<<<<I'm quattro shopping, and have come across a car that looks very
appealing =
and tempting. It's a 1995 Audi 90 quattro. I got pictures today, and it loo=
ks like the car has a manual climate control system. I was under the impres=
sion that all of them had the automatic climate control; was I mistaken?
Also, it the manual climate control more desirable? I'm thinking reliabilit=
y reasons, not convenience reasons. Final question -- Is it possible to ret=
rofit auto climate control or is it too much work to be worth it?>>>>
Mike, the B4 cars (93-95 90 series) were available with and without
climate control. I have a 1995 90Q Sport, and it does not have it.
According to Audiworld.com, the 93s and 94s were available with both,
depending on trim-package, and the 95s were only available with manual
HVAC. That is according to one source of information, anyway.
I cannot speak of the reliability of the auto-HVAC. Never owned one. I
see some buzz here on the list about flap-motor failures and the like,
but I do not believe it is rampant. Anybody else have an opinion on that?
I have driven some of the Audis with the automatic climate control, and I
like it. I frequently wish my car had it. However, there is something
nice about mechanically controlled HVAC. Easy to operate, easy to repair,
clean looking. Take your pick.
Retrofit? Not my cup of tea. If I were forced into it, I would want a
complete doner car, so that I wouldn't be forced to buy any dealer-only
specialty bits.
