Joel,

Don't toss that car just yet! The control arms/subframe bolts are REALLY soft
in these cars....chances are you probably just need to replace the front
control arm, tie rod and subframe bolts...perhaps the ball joints and shock
housing well you're in there...but I haven't seen the car so I don't know.

When my Audi came off the trees last spring we all thought it was cooked. Duct-
taped the body back together and drove it home...sideways. It was that bad.
Burned out 4 new tires in 300km because the alignment was so off.

I took it to a shop and when the put it on the lift they said it was garbage.
The frame was bent back 3" and up 2" on the passanger front corner, the front
subframe was totally in the wrong spot and the rear subframe and control arms
were trashed. Hood was gone, bumber was shredded...and I lost some lights.

I got an entire rear suspension for $50.00 from a wrecker...swapped it out. We
figured we might as well remove the front subframe and see how bad it was...as
soon as we started to loosen the bolts the subframe shifted. We put it back on
the ground and loosened all the bolts...the car immediately shifted into pretty
poor, but good (in comparison) alignment. Replaced the bolts and away we
went. Frame straightening, and body pieces brought the total up to $2000.00
