hard cold starting

I have been having the same problem with my 1986 5ktq, and I have been
thinking about retrofitting a thermo time switch from an earlier car for
the cold start valve operation. has anyone done this to a 86-90 mc motored
car? I have gone through the diagnostics in the Bentley and I still have a
car that barely starts cold, and sometimes not at all. Definitely not
reliably enough to let my wife drive. By the way, it was -2 degrees F
(-19c) this morning, and it took 30 seconds of cranking in six 5 second
bursts to get the car to start, it is amazing the battery lasted that long.

Yes, but that description is for "ordinary" CIS cars (i.e., not the
turbos).
The turbos are quite different beasts. They are CIS, but with a lot
more electronics and gewgaws for engine management.
