Mobile 1 0W-40 hits the shelves

All,
This is a paranoia notice. This past summer, while
experimenting with different oil weights, I figured
what the hell, I'll give Mobil 1 0-30 a shot.
Couldn't hurt, right? Well, after running the car
pretty enthusiastically from Albany to Bridgeport, I
stop the car, get out, let it cool, grab a cup of
coffee and shut the car off. A few hours later, on
the way to a friend's house, the valve cover gasket
spewed oil all over the place. Lesson learned? Don't
go too light if you're running the car even remotely
hard. I wasn't driving it at WOT the whole way, but
cruising at 110, dropping down to 70, then blasting to
100's again for a while until the temps got up, then
I'd get off it for a while, etc. 0-40 may be cool for
the winter, but ever since then, I've never run
anything thinner than 10-40 Amsoil. That's what's in
there now and when it gets warm, I'll switch back to
20-50 Amsoil. Just sharing my experience, YMMV, but
knowing what I do now, unless you have complete faith
in your seals and gaskets (and those of us, i.e., most
of us, over 100k really don't), thicker ist betta...at
least for me.
