In the world of the electronic tech it's universally known there are but two brands of DVM's- 1)Fluke and 2)everything else!! They make a good general purpose meter (I believe it's the 70-series) available for around 100$ or so. Don't settle for anything less, you'll thank me later. I own 4 of them that I've been using on a daily basis for 15 years with no problems. I've also noticed (among other notable professionals) that the techs I've worked with over the years some were "wanna-be's", some really knew their stuff, and without exception all the good ones used Fluke, and the idiots used "whatever".
