A backfire blew up my distributor?

My 5ktq runs great in the cold. But if it doesn't warm up for a few minutes
it sumbles upon acceleration. In fact, it kind of bucks. Knowing that this
is probably not the best thing for the car I try not to push the gas pedal
down unless there is not much load.

Leaving work the other night, up a steep hill at about 5 degrees above zero,
the car seemed to miss a bit. I pushed the pedal down a little more and it
sounded as if the turbo spooled, it made 10psi of boost, and didn't really
accelerate. I don't remember what I did after that, but the car shuttered.
I thought to myself that I must really let it warm up more next time, before
attempting to drive.

Today the distributor sounds very funny. Kind of like a blower motor with a
squeal. I put my hand on the dist. while the car was running and there is
vibration there. I pulled the cap and could wiggle the rotor a bit up and
down and there was a little rotary play too.

Does anyone know what I did???

Thanks,
Bill
