How to flare brake lines?

Hello fellow Audifans.

I'm a bit ashamed of my ignorance, but I guess there's a first time for everything.  I
have to join some
brake lines and for that, I need to produce flare ends.  I bought a "Double Flaring Tool
Kit" and
I'm not sure how to use it.  It contains a big cone which will produce a trumpet end, but
also
a number of small dies of different sizes.  What are these dies for and are they used
BEFORE or
AFTER I make the trumpet with the big cone?

Also, the flaring tool is imperial, not metric.  No store in town would have a metric one.
 I'm going to
use 3/16 brake line, hoping it's close enough.  Anyway, it's the flared end that produces
the seal.
Am I right?  Thanks for any suggestions.
