Started my 87 4KQ this morning to let it warm up (-5F brrrrr). Got in about
5 mins later and no heat, temp gauge a bit above half way.. Drove about 1/2
mile and realized something was not right, turned around and headed for
home. Pulled in driveway and steam appears from drivers side of hood. Temp
gauge nearing the top now, but the light did not come on... Turn off the
car and open the hood. It would appear that the saftey release in the cap
had popped and sprayed a bit of coolant out.. Upper radiator hose was
smokin', lower hose was ice cold....

Thermostat? It was changed this fall when I did the turbo conversion, and
has worked so far...

My question is what is the coolant flow direction. Does it go from the water
pump into the lower hose and out the top or the other way around?

I also suspect the radiator which looks pretty scary...

Thanks in advance

Bill.
