Another Q for me

Hello again everyone.  Well, I have another Q.  I only lasted about a
year without one but now I have moved to Colorado and can really use
power at all four wheels.

Here is my problem.  I have purchased an 88 5kcsq Avant from another
member of this list.  It appears that it may need a turbo swap.  He also
included a used K24 which appears to look good.  A little play in the
turbo is Okay I guess.  He had it diagnosed at a Denver shop after it
used 2 quarts of oil in only 2k miles and appears to smoke (blueish so
the paper states) on hard driving.

I smelled the exhaust when I was having a friend drive it home.  Didn't
really smell like the burning oil smell I get when I follow behind any
early model Caravan.  He is using Mobil one but I don't think that would
really smell a lot different then regular old dino.

There appears to be some oil around the outside of the turbo though.

So, before I have a chance to pull it all apart.  Could this be some
sort of air leak telling the car to run too rich and thus I am seeing
fuel out the pipe?  Haven't had a chance to drive the car much as I
worry about the turbo so I haven't had a chance to see how much oil it
is using and when.

One last note, sorry I know this is long, it does have a different
wastegate spring and the ECU hasn't been changed so it shuts the FP off
at 1.6.
