BTW Larry- the Infiniti G35 is a Skyline.

Used cars compared vs. new is not fair nor is it
apples to apples. The S8 in the mid-40s smokes
everything in terms of being a very nice sport
sedan, albeit a very large one.

But considering that the A4 3.0q is around $42k,
I wouldn't get an A4 at that price and I think a
lot of what Audi did in the B6 chassis is terrible-
cheap-looking metal accents on the vents, similar if
not the same vents as in the A4 chassis VWs, enormous
weight gain (to the tune of 300-400 lbs.), blocky
styling that does nothing to advance the form, silly
double-grille styling. With the B6 chassis S4 4.2, I'd
be willing to overlook those faults IF the performance
numbers show 0-60 in under 5.5s, 0-1320ft. in under 14s,
braking 60-0 in under 120ft., skidpad numbers over 0.84g
and a driving experience to match those excellent numbers.

Now if Audi would import an A6 4.2 Avant 6-speed, that
would get the nod over the S4 Avant, but sadly, the S4 Avant
is an eventuality, while the A6 4.2 Avant 6-speed would
be much more of a pipe dream.

Ideally- A6 4.2 6-speed Avant for daily use (although
I'd still rather have a 2.7T w/ 4.2 bodywork and RS4
internals) and a Mitsubishi Evo VIII for track use.
Cheap feeling, low-grade interior materials, poor
rust resistance, etc. become non-factors for a trackday
car- then braking, handling and power are far more important.

Realistically- 200q for daily use, turbo Miata for track use.
