'88 90q Interior Fan Removal

How do you remove the fan with the attached squirrel
cage?  Bentley says to remove the glove box (done),
unscrew fan (done), and remove (not).  Although the
fan motor will fit thru the gap between the heater
housing and the right air vent ducting, the motor and
the attached impeller won't.  If I remove the duct
work, will there be enough room?  Ran out of time when
I hit this snag and temporarily punted.  Who has a
BTDT?
