Intercooler 16 year service

I just replaced the diverter valve on my 98A4Tqm and found quite a bit of oil
in the intake plumbing. I'm assuming this is all coming from the breather
line. Has anyone taken there breather line off to a catch can, or put a small
fuel filter in line with it? I can't imagine all that oil going into the
throttle body is a good thing.
