Hey gang
I took the QSW Turbo out last night to the legal quarter mile drags. I know,
I know, Quattros aren't meant to be drag cars, I've already heard it :)
Anyhow,
First run of the night, I ran 16.4 at 82mph and lost the alternator belt about
half way down the track. This lead to me purchasing two new belts at the
local Autozone, and loosing LOTS of track time. I guess next time I'll
remember to tighten the alternator pivot bolt...
So I get back in the car after replacing the belt, decide to go for broke,
pull off the cap from the 3" downpipe, enter some random, super rich numbers
into the EFI computer, and pull into the staging lanes. As usually happens,
everyone was laughing and making very intelligent remarks about my beat up
station wagon. All those remarks ceased when I made my second and final pass
of the night, and ran a 15.1 at 90mph NCFS. Granted, this isn't that fast, but
this is with 1.2 bar manifold pressure (a whopping 3psi) and 500lbs worth of
me, passenger, and tools in the car. The new head, cam, turbo, header
package REALLY breathes well, and that MC bottom end can really take a
beating. I was shifting well past 7000 RPM in first and second gear (and
still making enough power to justify those shift points!)
The true test will be at Dubwars this year, next weekend. I see Javad and Ed
Armstrong have signed up for the drag racing action, it should be some fun
racing!
