This may sound trivial to most on this list and something that is taken
for granted,  but doing the above in a surprising large number of
"democratic" countries will get you arbitrarily stopped,  paperwork
demanded, vehicle searched, and you and the vehicle impounded for a day
or two for even minor discrepancies (loose plate bracket.)  They usually
won't actually impound the vehicle, just make you wait forever for the
Captain (or whatever) to show up.

Most of the time it's all cleared up very fast with a cash payment of a
small percentage of the fine on the spot.
