My Favorite Monkey Lad Tale

In 1975 my wife and I and our two kids took a 9,000 mile camping trip in
the western US.  It was a very educational trip and we were glad we did it.

While in Los Angeles, I took the pickup to a Sears store (Jiffylube-type
"service center") for an oil/filter change.  While waiting for the
Monkey-Lad to get to me I watched a young Monkey Lad wannabe trying to
change wheels on a small car he had on a small lift.  The lift was one of
those which would rise only enough to get all four wheels off the ground on
a good day.  The top of the lift was loose and a bit tottery and the car
wasn't well centered on the lift so that at maximum lift the LF tire was
still in contact with the ground.

I watched him struggle and scratch his head for a couple of minutes and
then stepped to the car, grabbed the left front bumper and lifted.  The
tire came off the ground.  The ML wannabe looked at me with eyes as big as
saucers and a look of shock on his face.  I grinned at him while holding
all of perhaps 25 pounds and told him, "I used to be a circus strong
man.  Go ahead and change the wheel."

The fellow may still be telling that story.  :-)
