Turns out my bracket lost the oh so important plastic "dowels" that go into
the holes. And y'all are right, butterfly bolts don't make sense.  So it's
back to the hadware store to get a really fat-headed bolt and large washers
that will keep the bracket from sliding off. (surprisingly, the bolts I
bought are the proper thread for the mounting holes.)  Grrr...
