1990 200 Quattro Avant Bike rack

Just yesterday I made a very simple bike rack for my old VW Bug, which
turns out to be very cheap. I had a few sets of ski carrier bars laying
around. Similar bars can be bought for universal mounting on the roof
rails on modern wagons.

To hold the bike I took an old front wheel from a damaged bike, cut of
all the spokes so I had the hub in my hand. I grind it down so I had a
flat edge on each side of the hub, and then simply clamped it onto the
ski bar with an exhaust clamp. Then I lift the bike up, and clamp the
front fork to the old hub, that is fastened to the bar. The rear wheel
rests on the rear ski carrier bar, and is held in place with rubber ties.
