WAS: drag race times NOW: history of listers

I grew up in LA County in the 50s. Gas Ronda lived about 10 miles from us,
and the first stock production car to break a hundred in the quarter mile
was a 409 Chebbie ("Dyno" Don Nicholson) from Don Steves Chevrolet in the
next town over. Somewhere in the 12s, as I recall. My sister's HS
boyfriend had a Thunderbolt Fairlaine for his daily driver. Used to pretty
much humble the local Mopar contingent. ALL these guys were broke all the
time, even with gas at 2 bits! The Mopar wedge cars got around 6 MPG on the
freeway, and far less around town. I wanted one then, I still want one
today ........ Just missed a really fine GTX a few months back, but at
least I'll get to work on it when it comes out of the body shop.
I LIKE these little off topic diversions once in a while, BTW. John
