"Is there anything else I should replace while I'm down there? Thanks
for the tips! BTW, how can I damage the ball joints during
installation? What is the best procedure?"
Brett,
Have you checked out the procedure details on Scott M's website? There's
no way any of us will do better than that via e-mail. He lists the stuff
you must replace, optional things you might want to replace, all in great
detail with pics, etc. Read that several times and it may raise additional
questions.
Re: how the ball joint >boots< can be damaged during re-install ... you
will be struggling with some heavy components whilst levering them into
place ... like the ball joint stub into the strut housing. The delicate
plastic boot is right there and one slip away from getting a cut in it.
And like Dave Head said, and Scott M emphasizes, there are a lot of bolts
that must not be tightened until the cars weight is on the suspension. If
you fail to do this step right the entire job will be ruined. I might add
that weight on suspension does not necessarily mean wheels on the ground.
Wheels on ground does not leave enough room to get under the car. One way
to do this is with wheels on ramps ... this will satisfy the requirement to
have weight on suspension while providing room to work under the car.
