The important thing is that the light goes out in a few minutes. The
long glow time indicates there is a stored code, but NOT anything that
will keep the airbag from operating as designed. You are correct in that
the most common stored code(s) are low voltage, usually caused by battery
removal, column work, instrument cluster removal, etc.
The VW 1551 and 1552 as well as RossTechs tool can read and reset the
codes.
