The spring-lever-arm thingie is probably worn.  I remember my coupe used
to do this, a couple of sets of doors and adjustments ago.  If it is
that "thing," all you need is one that works ok from a junkyard car.

You don't need to remove the door, and your problem is probably what
happened to a lot of the locks in the flush door handle cars (is yours
one of those?).  A pot metal piece with an arm on it breaks.  The
replacement part is stamped, and doesn't break, and is dirt cheap.
