Knecht and Mahle are one in the same.  Hengst, Mahle and Mann are OEM.
You can tell if it's the correct filter by looking for the check valve,
for most of the normally aspirated I5's the valve will be at the top, on
the turbo filters the valve will be at the bottom.

A roll of paper towels wrapped in duct tape ranks slightly above Fram
IMHO.

I've had good luck with Marvel Mystery Oil.  I've never used ATF, but
know of many who have, with no adverse effects.  YMMV
