Knechts Filters

David,

It's great to hear about Knechts on the list. I was an assistant manager
for them many years ago. I worked in Store #1 in Springfield, OR. The
managers offices were directly above me, so I got to chat with them all
the time. Dave W. (It's been a long time....I think his last name was
Wilford or Willby?) was really big in to oil analysis/quality. I'm sure
he worked out a deal with Mahle to get filters made by them.

For those not in Oregon/Washington, Knechts is a LAPS chain with their
own warehouse. I think of them as one step above Schucks/Checker/Kragan
-- Little better parts quality, but still hire some knot heads to run
the *computer*. All told, if they had a store in Idaho, I'd definitely
buy from them.

As for the flush with ATF, many people do it. I've heard good and bad.
It will flush your system. I've known people to make their own flush
with a diesel and kerosene mixture, but that seemed really risky. And of
course, you can just purchase oil flush too.

With any flush you run the risk of loosening up deposits that are
plugging holes/etc. I've heard stories about people flushing their
system, then getting noticeable oil leaks, or slight loss of oil
pressure. However, flushing a system shouldn't hurt anything.

As for me, I just change my oil semi-frequently, unless there's a
specific reason to flush. A fresh oil change every 3k miles or 6 months
is almost like a flush anyway :o)
