Finally had to work on this since one cable had slipped and now I had a
balance problem with the mechanism. The mechanism had been slowing up over
the years (I'm the original owner) and finally got the ratchety noise from
the pinion. Got it all apart, cleaned and lubed but not comfortable with the
resistance the cable guide exhibits with the channel. It's all back together
and working right now. Just how much resistance should be tolerable?
Passenger side moves pretty well, driver's side does not. The driver's side
cable seems to get bound in the crossover of the guide tube on the opposite
side. There are also wear marks on the channel guide where the punch outs
are for the water shield. Nothing broken and like I said it works, just want
to know what others had in the way of resistance. I'd say the good side on
mine is about 3-5 lbs and the bad side is 10-15 lbs where it binds.
Great trick learned from a lister to run the motor to its forward stop
before mounting it. If you set the cable guides on their alignment marks, do
the motor thing and then mount the motor, you'll find that the roof aligns
to its closed position and you don't have to reset the motor gears as
outlined in Bentley.
