Since this "rattle" happened to me when I installed Konis on my V8, I'll tell you what I did. Funny story, actually. I had to use a big adjustable wrench for leverage to align the rear shocks with the little hole at the bottom (that, and a 6'x6' under them). Got shocks assembled, put back into place in minimal time, and was ready to head back to school (weekend project.) Took car out for a test drive; heard an awful rattle/thud every time I came within ten feet of a bump or hole. Drove car back to our shop; pulled the wheel off right side where I heard the rattle. Pulled out aforementioned adjustable wrench that I had left between shock and support. Put wheel back on. Test drive showed no difference. Took car back to shop. Pulled shocks, spring, etc. back out. Used spring compressor to tighten spring, retightened top bolt on shock as far as I could. Reassembled(felt like NASCAR, I was replacing everything so fast.) Test drive revealed no more rattle and a very firm ride. HTH, and make sure you got your wrench out. ;)
