Audi Trailer wiring

George,
You did pretty well so far, a few changes may help, but I never did
implement any workaround for the warning light. I suppose you could
run independant wires, but if I recall, the converter did not
facilitate this, and you'd have to deviate from the standard trailer
light connector.
I did however relay the brake lights and running lights, so the power
consumed by the trailer lights did not overload the existing light duty
wiring. This has worked fine, just I still got the lightbulb out
warning with the brakes - let me know things were working, so no big
deal.
If you find a good way to remedy this besides modifying the bulb
warning relay, let us know.
The 5kq's are great for towing! Don't recommend over 1 ton though.
Also check your rear camber. I had to adjust mine to keep my left tire
from rubbing when car/tongue weight high. Test by loading sandbags or
concrete in the car (Home Depot test).

Subject: Audi Trailer wiring
I have just finished building my 4' x 8' utility trailer, and welding up
my own hitch, and ran into a little snag when doing the wiring.
The car is an '87 5kcstq.
Wiring system is six pole:
1) one wire to ground at the grounding point by the rear left light
module.
2) running light, taken from left rear module.
3) brake lights taken from left rear module driving both trailer brake
lights.
4) left turn indicator taken from left rear module.
5) right turn indicator taken from right rear module.
6) Not using the sixth wire.
Problem is when I put on the brakes, the proper bulbs light up, but the
brake warning light comes on. Is the system detecting an imbalance
between left and right? Do I have to wire the left trailer brake light
to the left car brake light, and the right trailer brake light to the
right car brake light?
I've always found trailer lighting challenging :-)
Cheers
George]
