I've taken two failed fan motors into a local Bosch repair shop to see if
they could be refurbished. The techs said both were trashed. I forget the
specifics, but I think they use a bushing at one end and a bearing at the
other, and the shaft wears where the bushing is until it's beyond being
repaired.
