recognition and an update...

ok, firstly, the recognition.... i was driving down the street
behind a motorcycle (about 100 feet behind him... the road is two
lanes each way, and there was a car in the other lane as well...)...
well, he randomly COMPLETELY turned around on his bike, stopped
watching where he was going, did this for a few seconds, then turned
back around, moved over to the other lane, slowed down and gave me a
huge thumbs up... this was the second thumbs up ive gotten since i
got McUrq up and running again... (yes, that's the name ive decided
upon..heh... it IS on the license plate and everything)... the other
time was when i was in a drive through, and a guy was walking through
it, and stopped, asked me if i was gonna be keeping it on the road
for a while... i responded that i was, of course, going to, and that
i had just redone a bunch of stuff... he said good cause ya never see
em anymore, so he was glad to at least have a few still running...
t'was cool... i forgot all about this part of the urq ownership thingie...
anyway, update on the power saga...
so, i ended up ordering a set of magnecor plug wires, since the
nology ones seemed out of spec... if not out of spec in general for
nology, at least out of spec in comparison to themselves... beyond
that, the coil wire had a huge resistance level...
well, i installed the magnecor 8.5mm race wires (i put one set of
these on a 4kq before... i remember the last set not fitting nearly
as well... these ones are red -- match the car-- and the lengths are
right, so they look really good too)... the car idles a bit better,
and while warm, it runs SO much better. part throttle doesnt feel
NEARLY as sickly as it did, and on the freeway, there is no more
stumbling going on at all...
when cold, there are still some sputtering problems off of idle, but
not as bad as it was before...
at full throttle, it almost feels like i have close to full power,
and it is MUCH more consistent overall. i think it's still a bit
lean, since i can see the water temp rise after a 1-2 gear full
throttle run... but i'll be able to fine tune that with a bit less
guesswork over the weekend when i install the air/fuel ratio meter...
it still isnt running perfect, but i am blown away as to just how
much of an improvement these wires made... it is so much more
driveable too... no more huge flat spot just off of idle, and the
surging at part throttle is all but gone...
i think that the warmup regulator is still kinda kludged, and there
has to still be something with the fuel flow, cause i have to have
the duty cycle set really low to get it to not feel overly lean...
so i dunno... we now know that at least part of the problem (perhaps
most of it) was in those lousy nology wires...
anyone have any thoughts knowing this new data?
if anything, it's alot more confidance inspiring now that it doesnt
feel like it's about to explode on me or something.....heh..
