well, if he used the tool and then torqued the pressure plate down over
it it should be fine.

.5" sounds like you are on the splines and just have to slowly pull it
in with the bolts.  Sometimes there just is no "aha" motion to tell you
it's right, but it is.

Just use 4 or 5 bolts spaced all around, and keep eyeballing the
tranny/engine distance all around to keep it pretty even.  A few turns
here, a few there, and next thing you know it's 1/8", and still doesn't
feel right!  But it's ok.  By then you can put it gear and turn the
engine by hand to see if the tranny output shafts turn, just for fun.
