that is a bit much for a system as small as an audi. there should (but
may not) be a tag with a system capacity for refrigerant under the hood
somewhere, r12 or r134a. any r134a conversion usually has about a 20%
reduction in the amount (weight) of refrigerant in relation to the
recommend r12 capacity. the r134a is more dense and less efficient than
the r12, and the higher pressures for an equivalent volume will (yes-
will) damage the system. an overload with r12
(or an r12 drop-in replacement) is not good, either- damned costly, too.
most shops that do conversions will do so properly and safely. they
usually are not as cheap as the 'pump 'em down and load 'em up' guys-
but you probably won't have more expensive problems down the road. there
is a right way and other way, our shop (here in florida) does it the
right way, and we charge accordingly. everyone stays cool, though. hth,
