Maybe the reason that he used the cutoff base of the 4kq manifold for this
project was to be able to port the manifold from the "middle". Years ago,
it used to be standard practice for VW tuners to cut intake manifolds into
two pieces, port them from the middle, and tig weld them back together. If
properly done, ground, and sandblasted the mods are even hard to spot.
In my opinion, this modified manifold looks very nicely done, and at least
visually sets this car apart from most other stock appearing 10v turbo
cars.
I think cutting and welding manifolds might be the best cheap way to modify
audi intakes, because the long curved runners prevent a carbide cutter from
reaching most of the intake interior.
