No shame in that any engine that gives max torque at something silly like
1800 revs as the i5 10v did can't be all bad. That's all I had in the coupe
and it rocked till 144k or so then bye bye engine block, biggest mistake I
ever made in that car was leaving the anitfreeze till the weather got nasty,
now I'll never forget.

I don't know, I remember my coupe was basically 2 x 100 front ends bolted
together so there was no problem with a i5 engine, however the 80's engine
compartment is a lot smaller. My V6 almost fills it front to back, there is
a space which looks as if I could fit a 4th cylinder in but trying to cram
the extra 2 in could be a nightmare, it was a pig on the coupe replacing the
engine even with the extra foot of engine bay.

My other option ( requires a lot of money ) is to get my hands on VW's
recent W12, the power would be awesome If you could keep it one the road.
The W12 would sit straight in with only a small modding to the bonnet /
hood. But as I mentioned this option would be rather costly but again
rather fun also.
