So what's the best way to release the AC Refigerant gas on a coupe quattro....

Can they recover it and put it into cans so I can
reuse it? I want to replace the compressor in my 100q
that locked up on the highway and demolished the belt.
Still has a full charge of R-12 in it and I have a
good compressor from a 5k. Would love to be able to
reuse the R-12 without paying shop rates to R&R the
compressor.
