It's part of the recharge process, you have to pull a vacuum for +/- 20
minutes before replacing the Freon.  Once it's pulling a good vacuum shut
off pump and watch the gauges, if it holds vacuum for 5-10 minutes on
it's own system is good to go.
Finding a specific leak point is a whole other process though, easiest is
probably the nitrogen/dye/blacklight route.
