Welcome to the list. You ask some questions that are difficult to
reply in a single post. The short version is, the 4000q is a great
car and has a lot of stuff that you could modify. Turbo engine
transplants, suspension, brakes, you name it... it's all possible.
Your wallet is the limit.

Not too many parts in common with the A platform VWs, although there
are some. The closest cousin in the VW family is the 80s Quantum Syncro
wagon. The same engine and transmission, different rear suspension and
wheel hubs/brakes, totally different bodies and interior.

I suggest going to the http://www.audifans.com site, and follow
the the Links to our members' web sites as a starter, and follow
their links to even more sites. Use the Google search engine on the
www.audifans.com page to look for past articles (although recent
articles does not seem to be indexed properly), and just lurk on
this list for a while. There are lots of discussions about 4kqs
and other Type 81/85 Audi platform stuff. I assure you that you'll
find a lot of good information just looking around.

Be realistic, though, about what you are going to get in a 20 year old
car. It could be a real money sink... unless the example you're
interested in is already in great shape.
