newbie 4000q questions

Hello all. I'm about to buy an '84 4000q and have some questions. First,
what major problems should I look for as far as mechanically?
Second, what's the short list of upgrades I should perform? I prefer
bolt on upgrades, but I'm willing to to light fab work. I've read that
lower, stiffer springs are good... is this true?
Any one with applicable parts please email me.
