And the US won't see it supposedly until 2005.

Let's hope the 2005 model fares better than its predecessor, which
was perhaps the most pointless S-car ever made.  In Europe, when the
new S6 came out, the car mags declared, "this car makes the S8
irrelevant".  I'm somewhat amazed AoA is going to give the nameplate
another go- dealers here in the US couldn't give 'em away, even
without the S6 eating away at sales.

Len says, to the press: "the S8 will surprise everyone".  Let me take
a stab at deflating the 'surprise'- an FSI biturbo V8?  It's no
secret the S8 will be thankfully based on the A8, not the A8L(which
is all we'll see here for at least 2-3 years).
