No... it's not unnecessary.  get a junk 87 coupe of Chris Semple, he's
always trying to unload them.

The major harnesses should be swapped intact, they are better.

Best example is the tailight harness.  (That's why you need a coupe
donor).  I got used to dismantling the awful two piece 10-pin sockets
for the tailights on my '82 coupe about once a year, just to keep the
darn lights working.  Horrible design.  By 87, maybe even 86/85, they
are one piece.  I spliced a set in and never had trouble again.

On your urq, just pull the interior, then most harness swaps are a lot
easier.  So the car is down for a while, that beats 8 electrical
failures a year while you patch it up.

I swear, you'd never regret the effort invested.
