Well, a while ago i posted a question looking for aftermarket exhausts,
specifically, a rear silencer for my 90q 10v. A few listers offered their
advice on aftermarket solutions including Paul Fernandes. Paul's company,
Custom Auto Craft (www.custom-auto-craft.com) has just started producing
items for older Audis and he sent me a link for his silencer, which at that
stage was in the devolopment. After asking a few questions like, how much?
will it fit my stock centre section? can i have one please? I told him i'd
definately have one, as long as my existing muffler did not fall apart while
waiting for it. It took a few months for the production items to come
through, Paul kept up communication with me and always answered my inane
questions. Eventually i recieved the exhaust at an extremely good price,
and fitted it last night.
The silencer is 304 stainless, 21/2" tube to the silencer box, where it y's
into 2 smaller pipes which bend around to the original exhaust's location.
The tips of the exhaust are larger and the edges rolled in. The bends on
the pipework are very good with very little decrease in diameter and he
seems to have made a good effort into the design of the pipework. The
welding is very good with very little (or none) discolouration of the metal
around the filets. The finish is highly polished all over, its a shame
really, only 5% of the exhaust can be seen when fitted ;) Fitting it was
not too tricky (Paul even includes instructions) and it sits reasonably well
on the car without any adjustment, Ill see how it looks when it has all
'settled' a bit. The exhaust tips tuck nicely into the bumper cutout.
Sound and performance, well the sound is surprisingly quiet (Paul warned me
it was louder than anticipated) at idle a quiet rumble can be heard, under
light throttle it is ever so slightly growly, and at high revs it gets a
little rasp. This is no Rice boy exhaust, it is far quieter than my holed
stock item. Performance, well, what do you expect from a rear silencer???
On the whole i am exstatic with his work, and so is everyone else when i
have told them how much ;) (cheaper than genuine)
Paul has a centre section in development at the moment, safe to say ill buy
it when its ready, he has also told me that he is working on a De-Cat, and
in the future wil be hopefully developing headers. He also sells other
stuff, i bought a set of clear indicators.
Anyway, i have no affiliation with Paul, but am very pleased with his
products. Photos to go up in the next week or so..
