drip on foot; profanity out mouth

I just love old cars, don't you..?

About 4.5 years/70k miles ago, I had bomb/master/slave replaced. This
morning whilst driving in my sandals, a wee drip of goo on my pinky toe.
*INSERT FOUL-MOUTHED RAGE HERE*

I can't remember, but what is that a symptom of? Bomb? Master? Slave? Hose?
None of the above?

Sorta related--Over the past 2 years, I've had failures/replacements of
virtually all hydraulic system parts. But I never cleaned up the engine bay.
  This obviously makes leaks of anything hard to tell from old messes. Any
btdt's on thorough engine bay cleaning? What to use/not use, etc.?

Car is a '87 5kcstq w/200k mi.
