so, i figured out the dash issues... thank you mike sylvester for the
vague hint that did work...  the mistake i made was splicing the
blue/grey wires into the internal light blue/black wire for the
emergency flasher switch...

so, the answer is to splice both sets of black/blue wires on the new
switch on to the set of black/blue wires from the factory wiring...

after i did that, everything worked... yeehaw....
