Yes, yes, and yes.
Not to knock front wheel drive, heck, my "fun" car is one (but with a
bone crushing 101 hp), but that FWD auto 4 cyl 80 is not the platform on
which to build your mean dream machine.
get a type 89 quattro and work from there. They can be picked up real
cheap these days, especially if the drivetrain finally needs an
expensive repair. Which does not matter to you...

Yes, there is a strange, as-yet unexplained force of nature that brings
the ugly ducklings and lost sheep of many minor marques to share their
final homes together.
I actually have reached the point where I have to beware of strangers
abandoning their old Audis in my parking lot...
