4kcsq cooling problems (update)

Thanks to those who helped on the bleeding.  New problem though.
Looks like my water pump has a busted o-ring.  I think all the air in the system that did not bleed created enough pressure to bust it.  Once the engine warms up, a decent amount of fluid leaks out from under the timing belt cover.  I have a new pump and several o-rings (just in case I screw up a couple of times) on the way.
Main question: what is the easiest and/or most straightforward way to change this thing with the engine still installed?  ALL info and experience is greatly appreciated in this matter.  I would rather get as much info as possible BEFORE I get into the thick of it and break something.
I am in a little of a time crunch.  On July 3 (one week) I leave for a road trip to Destin FL.  3600 miles round trip from here (Colorado Springs) to there and back again.  Would like to have a smooth, cool engine to for this.
