Got an '88 80 4cyl for almost free, now what? Also 5ktq update.

Well point taken here, but theres things to consider also. The first being I
own a shop where my main source of income these days is coming from doing an
engine swap. This is putting a Chevy LT-1 V8 into a Porsche 944. Obviously
THAT is not a bolt in, hehe. The second, I don't want to have to cut out any
frame on the 80, nor do I want to have to make any changes to the front
sheet metal, except to add in the front engine safety mount. The only reason
I have any wish to do the conversion is just to do it. I don't plan to make
it into a daily driver, not even a weekender, just something to use when I
have my 5k apart, and maybe take out for fun sometimes. I have no other use
for the car, I have other cars I can use as backups (what is life comming to
when your Porsche is considered a backup car!), just I think it would be
neat to have a backup Audi. Honestly as of yet I have no love for the 80, if
I were to sell it I wouldn't buy another to convert, I would take that money
and buy somtehing for the 5k (shes going to really need that set of Pauter
rods soon!). My only other take is that if I do the conversion I could most
likely sell the 80 for more money (and buy those Pauter rods, and a set of
pistons), assuming I don't fall in love with it.

The biggest thing I guess is that I just fell in love with the 5cyl turbo
engine, and the 5k. I guess part of me just doesn't want to go through the
curve of learning yet another engine. I'd much rather toss the 4cyl, and the
electronics and other Audi gizmos (I almost died in laughter when I saw how
the cruise control linked to the throttle on the 4cyl) and put in a nice
familiar 5cyl, and make my own electronics to match.

But taking all of your opinions to heart draws another set of questions.
Anybody know of a good cam for the 4cyl? If the 4cyl stays then it gets the
normal treatment, except minus the boost. I guess I'll do EFI, make a
header, and install better exaust the rest of the way back. How much power
is this engine supposed to have stock, and what engine code is it? Do the
same EFI injector cups used in the 5cyl EFI conversion work on the 4cyl
head? I am really thinking I need to stock them little things, I have 3 5cyl
heads that need them, and maybe the 4cyl too!

> The 4 cylinder 4000's front end is vastly different from the 4000 5
cylinder cars. Youd' have to pretty much swap out the entire front end
(sheet metal etc). from a quattro to get the 5 cylnder to fit, or you'll
have to do some major cutting and bracketing of the existing pieces. The
auto trans won't hold up to the torque of a turbo engine so you'll have to
source a manual transmission from a fwd 5000 or coupe. This simply isn't a
bolt in. Your better selling it for 1200 bucks as a running driving car, and
then taking that 1200 and waiting for a coupe of 4000 q..
