Ok, so now I'm replacing the rear tie rods on the '84 4kq. They are
rusted beyond recognition (and not aligned correctly), and I have the
new parts now.
My question to the group is about the attachment point on the body of
the car. There is a small "locking tab" which blocks one side of the
bolt. This prevents a socket from fitting over it.
What is the proper procedure for removing this bolt? Do I just try to
pry and bend this tab out of the way? I checked the Bentley but it
wasn't much help.
Also, once the new tie rods are on, what's the best way to prevent them
from rusting to hell? I've heard a few things but don't know what to
believe. One suggestion I received was to cover them with krylon brand
spray paint. Another was to use axle grease all over them. Any
suggestions?
TIA!!
